A New Gold Standard for Digital Ad Measurement? - HBR.org Daily

Image
Ever since Neil Borden coined the term "marketing mix" in 1949, companies have searched for ways to analyze and refine how they market and promote their products. For a long time, the leading analytic approach to this problem was "marketing mix modeling," which uses aggregate sales and marketing data to suggest strategic adjustments to a firm's marketing efforts. But in the realm of digital ad measurement, this approach was largely taken for an outdated behemoth, easily outmaneuvered by the immediate, precise, and deterministic attribution new technology enabled. Now, however, marketing mix modeling is making a comeback. Why? For one, fundamental changes to the digital ads ecosystem — such as Apple's new limits on what advertisers are able to track — mean that deterministic user-level measurement of digital advertising effects is only going to get more challenging. As this data dries up, companies that don't adapt run the risk of suddenly finding t...

Unlike the never-ending 'year of mobile,' AI-powered search really is ... - Search Engine Land

Image
The first mobile phone call was made nearly 50 years ago, on April 3, 1973. It's less clear when exactly in the early 2000s prognosticators first declared it was the "year of mobile," which has since become an SEO punchline. Such is sometimes the case with big bets in technology, like Google Glass or Amazon's Fire phone. So it's only natural to wonder whether all the recent hubbub about AI-powered search and generative AI (think: ChatGPT, Bard) is much ado about nothing – or if it really is the next big thing. Spoiler: It's probably the latter. "If it was a human, it would be learning to roll onto its back while we clapped. Instead, we're here watching the largest companies on earth treat it like a nuclear bomb," said Alec Cole, an SEO strategist at performance marketing agency Amsive Digital. "So, yes, I think this is the next big thing." SEO consultant Sara Taher agreed. "...

How one of North America's largest Conservative congregations ... - JTA News - Jewish Telegraphic Agency

Image
"We were all surprised by how much uptake there was," said Yacov Fruchter, the synagogue's director of Community Building and Spiritual Engagement, Yacov Fruchter. With over 4,000 members, Beth Tzedec is one of the largest Conservative congregations in North America. However, over the past decade, Beth Tzedec has suffered from a decline that has affected the Conservative movement, once North American Judaism's largest denomination. In 1971, 832 congregations identified with the movement, a number which dropped to 562 by 2020. The number of Conservative Jews also dropped from 1.6 million at its peak to a half million by 2020, according to data from the 2020 Pew Research Center survey of U.S. Jews. The decline of the Conservative movement left Beth Tzedec struggling to attract new members while old families fell out of touch with the congregation. "Ten years ago, our membership was at 2,400 households, but I think that number was inflated," said Rabbi S...

Can You Run Ads For Cannabis? - Herb.co

Image
The short answer is yes, but it is more complex than it seems. Both traditional and digital media are full of restrictions and limitations when it comes to advertising cannabis. Currently, cannabis advertising is restricted on many channels, including television, radio, and most online advertising platforms, such as Google, Instagram, and Facebook. This is mainly due to the ambiguity of federal regulations on cannabis, which is still classified as a controlled substance at the federal level. But restrictions also occur at the state and local levels. Not to mention that each platform or social network, including the major search engines, has its own guidelines when it comes to advertising cannabis. Due to these strict prohibitions and limitations, it can be a bit complex for any cannabis-related business to do any kind of advertising, especially paid advertising. This is where search engine optimization, keyword usage, and the creation of quality content come into play.

Instacart will now let brands run ads for random weight produce items like bananas and grapes with price-look-up (PLU) codes or stickers, the company said. While earlier brands could run ads for packaged produce items that come with a barcode, this new capability will offer brands like Gotham Greens and Love Beets among others, premium placement on Instacart for weighted items ranging from fresh vegetables, fruits and meats to cheeses, nuts and deli items. Since 2020, Instacart has partnered with nearly 60 packaged produce advertisers, the company said. Instacart has made a concerted push into advertising since the onset of the coronavirus pandemic. Over the last six months, Instacart has made it easier for brands to l...
